ENDA Santé accompanies Rawal Ak Diam in its formalization

The multi-stakeholder platform "Rawal Ak Diam" (PRAD) now becomes a formal structure in accordance with the legal provisions in force. The constitutive General Assembly in which took part all the stakeholders, the health authorities (medical region and the health district) was chaired by the prefect of Saint-Louis.

The NGO ENDA Santé, in charge of the technical support component of the platform, began the process of formalization and empowerment of PRAD a year ago, in collaboration with all stakeholders. This desire to empower the "Rawal Ak Diam" platform has been developed through a community consultation process with the actors concerned by the implementation of several activities, notably focus groups.

"Rawal Ak Diam" is a multi-actor collaborative space that proposes local solutions based on a co-creation approach for the improvement of maternal and neonatal health. The objective of this formalization is to perpetuate and consolidate the multi-actor approach and to establish a better community ownership.

In its missions, PRAD, with the support of the Sanofi Espoir Foundation, has proposed several ways to improve maternal and child health, including the construction and equipping of the Rao maternity hospital, the rehabilitation of the Diamaguène maternity hospital, capacity building for midwives and the provision of ultrasound equipment, the realization of information, education and sensitization activities on the journey of the pregnant woman (home visit, the DIWAN sensitization approach based on religious and customary values, the setting up of a social solidarity fund for health called "Diapalanté Ligueey mena Faju", "Yobuma Rao" assisted deliveries. These initiatives have also favored the birth of an associative collaboration space called Platform.

"Rawal Ak Diam", as it is called in the local language, aims to save mothers and children from the uncertainties and concerns related to pregnancy and childbirth conditions in contexts where there is a lack of quality health infrastructure and a scarcity of human, technical and financial resources.
