MSF has published the results of a monitoring study of its community-based HIV and TB project in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal, eastern South Africa.
WHAT IS THIS STUDY ABOUT? The results of the MSF study show that the project has reached its UNAIDS target of 90-90-90, one year ahead of the 2020 deadline, resulting in 90-94-95, which means:
- 90% of people with HIV know their HIV status
- 94% of those tested are on antiretroviral treatment
- 95% have a suppressed viral load
These results support MSF's view that community-based interventions can better reach and support more people living with HIV who do not have access to conventional health services, which is essential to fighting the HIV epidemic.
