Integrated Water Resources Management Programme (IWRM)

Context

The health component of the Integrated Water Resources Management Programme (PGIRE) is implemented by ENDA Santé and its partners (the NGOs Water, Life and Environment (EVE), Democracy and Governance, Human Rights and Local Development (3D), the Partnership and the USE) and financed by the Organisation for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS) Operating in the five regions of the Senegal River basin: Saint-Louis, Matam, Louga, Tambacounda and Kédougou, PGIRE is a concrete response to the effects of large-scale infrastructure on the Senegal River, which weakens the ecosystem and exposes populations to water-related diseases such as malaria, shistosomiasis and other Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). It thus contributes to the fight against these water-related diseases.

Objective

Ensure that any negative health impacts resulting from the development of water resources are mitigated and that the development of water resources is carried out in a way that maximises the health benefits to the population.
