World AIDS Day: ENDA Santé mobilizes communities

HIV infection in Senegal is characterized by a relatively low prevalence in the general population (0.5% according to EDSC 2018), but particularly high in highly vulnerable populations where prevalence can be as high as 27.6%.

As part of the response, ENDA Santé is implementing the FEVE project, a regional program operating in 9 countries in the sub-region, funded by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

December 1st of each year, the international day dedicated to the fight against AIDS, is an opportunity for all the actors of the response, in particular for ENDA Santé whose mission is to accompany the most vulnerable people, to intensify the fight and to carry out large-scale prevention and awareness actions. This year's theme: "pushing for equality", is a call to action for more resources to poor countries (West and Central Africa) to bridge the gap, for equal access to prevention and treatment services...

One hundred people sensitized, consulted and tested for HIV and hepatitis

This year, the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh Health Center in Parcelles Assainies was chosen for a free consultation day as part of the FEVE IMPULSE project. In partnership with the North District, ENDA Santé offered a package of services (awareness, HIV screening, Hepatitis, female cancers and gynecological consultation). This was made possible thanks to the assistance of community relays and Bajenu Gox who mobilized the community.

The population, increasingly aware, came massively to be consulted. More than a hundred people were screened. The Chief Physician of the Mame Abdou Health Center, Dr. Abdoulaye Senghor, satisfied with this collaboration with ENDA Santé through FEVE IMPULSE, said

We need these social mobilization activities here in Parcelles Assainies to reach more people. We already have an active file of 265 patients and we want this kind of activity to be perpetuated.

This day is important to us. We would like it to be organized more often. This activity allows us to know our status and to act accordingly. I have a friend who has lost 6 of her relatives to hepatitis. That's why when she heard about this screening day, she came to take advantage of it because she can't afford the test," says a beneficiary.
